Our consortium of Fermioniq, Deltares, and Quix Quantum have been awarded €250k for further development of quantum and quantum-inspired algorithms for water modelling.

We’re excited to share that our Aquaduct project has been selected for Phase 3 of the Purple NECtar Quantum Challenge!

Together with our partners Deltares and QuiX Quantum, we’ll continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible by applying quantum-powered technologies to real-world water management challenges.

Over the coming year, our joint team will:

  • Develop quantum-inspired software for water modelling — delivering tangible performance improvements using today’s high-performance computing systems.

  • Design next-generation quantum algorithms for future hardware — laying the groundwork for breakthroughs that could outperform classical methods.

This next phase will build on the success of the past eight months, during which we:

  • Established the use of quantum-inspired techniques for water simulations through scientific validation – marking the first application of its kind.

  • Achieved up to 1000x speedups on the project’s test models using GPU-accelerated, quantum-inspired algorithms — demonstrating that quantum thinking can deliver real benefits today.

  • Designed resource-efficient quantum algorithms requiring as few as 70 logical qubits to simulate water models beyond the reach of current classical methods.

As we move into this next stage, we’re excited to deepen our collaboration and continue to apply quantum technology to the most pressing global challenges.
